"1stdibs, which caters to the discerning customer in search of the very best in quality and design, is the perfect platform for our unique and special 'Proud to be Indian' collection by Tarun Tahiliani. We are very excited about this new venture for us and look forward to adding additional carefully curated product," said Angelique O'Brien, Chief Marketing Officer for OBEETEE.
Known as the Karl Lagerfeld of India, Tahiliani's "Proud to be Indian" 18 limited edition designs — all hand-woven in silk and wool — convey an understated opulence. "They are a nod to India's glorious heritage and her vibrant present," advised Tahiliani. A seamless blend of the traditional and the contemporary, the collection incorporates three themes: elements from miniature Mughal paintings; the delicate floral and paisley motifs of the age-old embroidery art of chikankari; and canvases by the designer himself.
1stdibs’ New & Custom category brings together the makers, their designs and their stories in a single location to give buyers a holistic view of the product they’re considering. Since its introduction in November 2016, the 1stdibs New & Custom category, which features a unique blend of traditional, modern and conceptual styles all with truly original design and contemporary materials, has more than doubled in size. The category now offers some 35,000 items, some which are exclusive to 1stdibs and others that have launched on the site.

About OBEETEE
OBEETEE is one of the world's largest and oldest hand-woven rug companies. A dynamic, creative and ethical company, OBEETEE has been driven by design excellence, quality craftsmanship and process innovation throughout its almost 100-year history. Today, OBEETEE has one of the largest and most modern rug manufacturing facilities in the world, including the industry’s first water effluent treatment plant. However, we place an equal focus on the integrity of our craftsman heritage. Our more than 25,000 independent weavers create extraordinary woven carpets, using traditional artisanal skills that have been handed down through generations. Our craftspeople are the cornerstone of our business, and therefore, we place great focus and responsibility on our contribution not only to our weavers, but also to their families and the communities in which they live. As such, OBEETEE is the first company in the handmade woolen carpet industry to be awarded the Social Accountability System Certificate (SA 8000) by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), which is one of the most reputable auditing/certification bodies accredited by Social Accountability International of New York, in 2004.
