Obeetee in All the Right Places - Carpet Leader on the Move with Exciting new Programs and Installations
October saw the launch of the Obeetee Express quick-ship program with a collection of 17 designs, each created by a notable designer or architect, to benefit DIFFA: Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS, one of the largest funders of HIV/AIDS service and education, as part of its Specify with Care® program.
Then, the Obeetee Express program proper, made its debut to much fanfare at Boutique Design New York (BDNY) at the Jacob K. Javits Center November 12 through November 13. This program offers expertly hand-tufted carpets with a two-week lead time for strike-offs after rendering approval and a six-to-eight week production time for most sizes. There are hundreds of designs from which to choose on the new Obeetee Express website -- www.obeeteeexpress.com -- from tribal and "deconstructed" designs to updated traditional. Customers can also submit their own designs.
Obeetee Express offers 194 stocked colors in 100% New Zealand wool. The website allows customers to select from these hues to develop their own unique carpet colorations. The site also lets them view the rugs in various room settings and print or email samples to clients. Other hues from Obeetee's bank of more than 4,000 colors and additional fibers like silk, viscose, nylon and cotton are possible with a customized lead time.
When it came to designing the Grand Foyer for New York City's prestigious Holiday House Design Show House open through November 15 to December 6, acclaimed interior designer Bonnie Steves of BJS-Assoc. Interior Design, who is known for seamlessly and respectfully integrating the work of a variety of artisans into her aesthetic, looked to the Obeetee Express program. She designed two carpets that perfectly reflect her theme of "A Winter Holiday Under the Northern Lights." "At our darkest moments we have light! The entire room was inspired by the idea of going from light to dark and how we are never clearly in the dark," said Steves. "The Obeetee Express carpets worked perfectly with the theme and were a play in light and dark achieved through varying shades of gray. The quality is wonderful and the ease of ordering and quick delivery are ideal."
One of the talented designers from the DIFFA collection, Patrick J. Hamilton, chose an Obeetee hand-knotted wool and silk Mehrab "Faith" rug for his "Southern Study" in the Southern Style Now Showhouse in Savannah, Georgia, presented by Traditional Home magazine and open November 10 through December 7. "Obeetee's Faith carpet was the bridge between all the colors and textures in the room's textiles, and the perfect soft-but-earthy look for the study. I love that it gave a sense of age to the room, but in a totally fresh way."
