Capel's Innovative, High-Value Rugs Spark Successful Market
Capel Rugs had a number of well-received product introductions at the summer markets in Atlanta and Las Vegas as retailers shopped for innovative, high-value rugs to spark business in the late summer and fall-winter selling seasons.

"We placed a good volume of new orders during the summer markets, even for items that are not shipping until the fall," said Cameron Capel, president -- sales and marketing for Capel Rugs. "Traffic in Atlanta seemed to be on the slow side for everybody this summer, but the retailers and designers that came in to see us really liked what they saw. In Vegas, we had two very busy days on Sunday and Monday before activity trailed off a bit."

The Atlanta International Area Rug Market was held July 10 to 14; the Las Vegas Market took place July 28 to Aug. 1.

In both Atlanta and Las Vegas, Capel introduced new rugs across a variety of price points, styles and constructions that proved to be big hits with buyers, Capel said. Strong performers on the import side of the company's line included luxurious traditional hand knots, artfully abstract machine mades and a new collection of contemporary rugs made from recycled PET polyester yarns.

In Capel Rugs' domestic line, "people especially liked the new woven Seagrove, for its easy care and performance attributes," Capel said.

Capel Rugs' best-received new import designs at the summer markets included two sharply priced machine made collections in 100% New Zealand wool. Tribute, an addition to the popular Biltmore® For Your Home collection, takes inspiration from the legendary estate's legacy of gathering and gracious living. Lineage, Capel Rugs' other new machine made wool collection, features four traditional-leaning designs, including two geometrics, in four contemporized colorways, with a dense, detailed texture.

"Since Metropolis, a sharply priced Wilton-woven collection of transitional and traditional designs in 100% New Zealand wool that we introduced in 2017, has been so successful, we wanted to expand our assortment in this category," Capel said. "The success of Metropolis gives buyers a lot of confidence that these two new machine made collections also will be strong sellers in their stores."

Also doing well for Capel Rugs at the summer markets were four other collections:

Charise
A well-priced, upscale, hand knotted traditional collection from India featuring classic motifs updated for today's lifestyles. The 100% wool rugs are available in eight patterns and colorways: Isfahan in sand, Kazak in blue multi, Keshan in champagne, Mahal in dark chocolate, Peshawar in slate ruby, Tabriz in fog blue, Ushak in scarlet and Ziegler in terra cotta. A 5' x 8' rug may retail for $1,149.

Landis
An eclectic mix of traditional and contemporary rugs that are machine made of 100% olefin in Turkey. Cross woven with self-fringe, Landis features eight different designs: Abstract in blue multi and stone multi; Heriz in mica; Isfahan in charcoal and slate blue; Kazak in blue mist, century blue, classic red and champagne blue; Keshan in cerulean blue and crimson/navy; Kirman in ivory; Panel in multi; and Ushak in ivory blue. A 5'1" x 7'5" model may retail for $249.

Burke
A new contemporary collection made from 100% PET yarns recycled from plastic bottles. The collection is hand loomed with double-back quality in India to deliver an easy-care, high-performance rug with a thick, lush pile. The collection comes in three colorways -- aegean, charcoal and stone -- and four sizes. A 5' x 8' rug may retail for $649.

SEAGROVE 8752cc5a-1b67-4619-874b-4246bec546b9.jpg
An easy-care flat woven collection that features a reversible design in 100% textured polypropylene. Made in the USA, Seagrove is inspired by the ceramic glazes found throughout Seagrove, an acclaimed pottery center near Capel's Troy, N.C., headquarters. The collection features five colorways -- steel, oyster, multi, wedgewood and seagrass (pictured)

"We are excited by the enthusiastic response we generated with these latest introductions," Capel said. "Buyers gave us strong votes of approval for our new rugs in a range of different categories. We earned valuable new placements at the opening price points with our creative machine made designs, and at the higher end, where we strengthened our assortment of luxurious traditional and transitional hand knots."

Most of these new rugs will be available for shipping by October or soon after, Capel added, "making them a great way to stir up sales as we head into the holidays."
