Mohawk adds president to Wellborn’s card, Retains COO title
CALHOUN, GA.—Mohawk Industries has added the responsibilities of president to Christopher Wellborn’s resume, which include being the manufacturer’s COO since November of 2005, a position he maintains.

Wellborn will also continue to serve on Mohawk’s board, where he has sat since 2002 when he was named president of the company’s Dal-Tile division. He relinquished the Dal-Tile job to become COO.

Jeffrey Lorberbaum, Mohawk’s chairman and CEO, called Wellborn “an excellent partner in his role as COO as we transitioned from a carpet manufacturer to a total flooring business, during which he contributed to improving the company’s strategic initiatives, organization structure, personnel development and execution.”

With the country emerging from this cyclical downturn, Lorberbaum said Mohawk continues to position itself to benefit with an improved organization and lower cost structure.

As such, he said Wellborn’s new role will allow him “to continue in the development and execution of the company’s strategy to deliver increased value to our customers, employees and shareholders. He will promote further innovation in our products, processes, marketing and brands in all of our operations across the enterprise, and will work with me and all our leadership teams to deliver on our commitments to quality, efficiency, service and sustainability.”

Under the new structure, the presidents of Mohawk Flooring, Frank Peters; Unilin, Bernard Thiers, and Dal-Tile, Harold Turk, will report directly to Wellborn. Tom Lape, president of Mohawk Residential and Al Kabus, president of the company’s commercial division, The Mohawk Group, will continue to report to Peters.
