Samuel Epstein founded his flooring company in 1927 and his sons Harold and Arthur took over the business in 1953. Arthur handled the technical work of measuring and installing, while Harold took on sales and bookkeeping.

By 1955, the brothers moved to a larger location in Hartford, CT, creating the moniker Epstein Brothers Flooring and the Remnant King. The 1950's through the 80's brought unprecedented growth and prosperity to the business, which became the second-largest floor covering store in the greater Hartford area. By 1968 they moved to their present location in the Elmwood section of West Hartford.

The Epstein brothers retired in 1993 and turned the business over to their sons. Brothers Gary and Mark still run it today. Their showroom has grown along with their commercial and residential base. To futher service their clientele, the brothers added an in house designer, Maryann Woodfield, in 2009. Woodfield Design had worked with Epstein Brothers for 25 years, and now together they offer in home consultations at no additional charge to the customer.
