Portice Carpet One Floor & Home

In 1966, the company Por Boy Stores, Inc was initially started by Jay and Mildred Portice as an off goods store at 785 Wadsworth, Lakewood, Colorado. This came about after the South Platte river flooded in 1965 and wiped out their previous venture. Jay and Mildred sold tile, rugs, and carpet, and pioneered the wood shutter category in the yellow pages. They also sold freight salvage doors and had customers from states including Colorado, Wyoming, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and New Mexico.

In 1971, the store moved to 1200 Simms St., Lakewood, Colorado, where it is currently located today. Jay and Mildred’s son, Jerry, returned from air force duty in Vietnam and began helping out at the store. Jay passed away in 1972, and Jerry took over the store operation with his mother, Mildred. In 1978, Mildred retired, and after she passed away in 2001, Jerry became sole owner of the store.

It was in 1998 that Jerry joined the Carpet One co-op, and the store became known as Portice Carpet One.

As part of the Carpet One co-op, we have a reputation for doing good work, and we have one of the largest selections of products in the metro Denver area.

We keep up with today’s trends and customer requests by listening to people and through the trade publications. We also attend Carpet One convention meetings and talk with our peers to ensure that we are up-to-date on the latest and greatest in the flooring industry.

We are proud of our large, open showroom that welcomes you to shop and look at available alternatives. We also have display floors to show what different products will look like. We believe in treating people with honesty and courtesy, doing good work, and offering our customers fair prices.
