Lighthouse Interior: Competition Winners
Casalgrande, 26 July 2017 - An astounding total of 128 entries, submitted by over 400 designers from 38 different countries. Impressive numbers for the Lighthouse Interior competition, targeting young designers and promoted by Cerasarda, a brand of Gruppo Romani Industrie Ceramiche and leader for excellence in the production of ceramics. The final ranking has selected 3 award-winning projects, 4 gold mentions, 10 honorary mentions and a further 30 finalist projects.

"The entries taking part in the competition are of high creative value and particular design interest," comments Paolo Romani, CEO of the Romani Group. This gives us even more satisfaction as it confirms our brand as a benchmark in the international landscape of ceramic design”.

The aim of the competition was to identify a collection of decorative furnishings and ceramic shapes, inspired by the myth of lighthouses and coastal towers, to create new products of undisputed elegance, designed for luxury accommodation. Indeed attention has recently re-discovered these buildings, with a view to their renewed use, particularly when planning resorts for demanding and refined tourism. The competition was particularly looking for objects of design to be associated with this theme, made entirely or partially using ceramic materials, or ceramic wall and floor tiles, underlining the possibility of developing the line. The winner of the competition will feature in the catalogue of Cerasarda Atelier, the Group division devoted to furnishing accessories.

First place went to the Horizon project by Marta Koniczuk (Poland), which won the € 5,000 prize and the opportunity to see the collection go into production. These are objects of design that interpret the idea of relaxation and the sea: floating bathtub, washbasin and lantern with a ceramic texture of crystallised salt, enclosed in the vertical shape of a fishing float.

Second place went to a project by Team Frost (Italy), composed by Andrea Maria Stefani and Erika Frosi, which consists of a series of ceramic lamps, while third place was awarded to Team Monik (Italy) by Monica Orsini, with her collection of lamps inspired by marine sponges and coral.

The final ranking and all finalist projects are posted on the Code portal:
