Uniboard® Celebrates Launch of Moncure MDF Plant - VIP Event Welcomes Customers, Govt. Officials and Vendor Partners
November 4, 2010 (Moncure, N.C.) – Uniboard®, a subsidiary of Pfleiderer AG and a leading North American manufacturer of engineered wood products, recently celebrated the official launch of its 340,000 square foot MDF mill in Moncure, North Carolina. Beginning operations in February 2010, the facility is North America’s largest and most cost-effective MDF/HDF production line and the company’s first MDF facility in the United States.

During an exclusive “Play with the Leader” event on October 28, guests toured the new facility, witnessed its production capabilities firsthand and participated in a series of keynote addresses. Incorporating the latest in manufacturing technologies, the Moncure mill features advanced equipment and processes – including a 10-foot continuous press and the newest sanding and cutting techniques.

“Our guests were amazed by the plant’s output capacity and technology, and were left with a lasting impression of Uniboard’s commitment to our customers and to industry innovation,” said James Hogg, president and CEO of Uniboard. “We were pleased to welcome customers, vendor partners and government representatives and to showcase all that Uniboard has to offer. Our Moncure facility is at the forefront of technology and flexibility and is able to serve the eastern United States. The launch event celebrated the mill’s advanced production capacity and processes and highlighted its ‘one-stop shop’ capabilities.”

With an annual production capacity of 226 million square feet, the opening of the Moncure plant represents a significant investment by Pfleiderer in North America.

"The new facility’s proximity to Pergo’s operations in Garner, North Carolina, gives us a key competitive advantage in the North American laminate market,” stated Ralf Eisermann, CEO of Pergo AG. “Our close relationship with Uniboard helps Pergo to effectively service our valued distributors, dealers and customers – while also reducing freight and energy usage and contributing to the overall efficiency of the organization.”

All Moncure’s MDF/HDF panels are produced from 100 percent locally-sourced recycled and recovered Southern Yellow Pine fiber for superior surface quality, uniform density, precisely controlled thicknesses and sanding smoothness. In addition to producing MDF and HDF panels in a variety of grades and sizes, the facility manufactures particleboard and thermofused melamine panels – making Uniboard Moncure a true full-service resource for distributors and manufacturers of kitchen cabinetry, office and residential furniture, store fixtures, flooring and molding. Distribution of all products may be arranged by either truck or rail anywhere in North America with mixed load capabilities.
