Leggett & Platt, Carpenter to produce Stainmaster cushion - Extra protection extends warranties of broadloom
Atlanta—Leggett & Platt and Carpenter will be manufacturing Stainmaster carpet cushion, which features a breathable moisture barrier to keep spills and pet accidents from soaking into the cushion and causing re-appearing stains and lingering odors.

“Stainmaster carpet cushion offers benefits for both retailers and consumers, according to Steve Griffith, vice president of residential flooring, Invista. “It gives consumers a complete system that works together to extend the beauty of their carpet. For the retailer, consumer trust typically translates to a significant revenue premium for products that carry the Stainmaster brand name.”

Three lines of Stainmaster carpet cushion will be available:

• Stainmaster, which is designed to help keep carpet clean, features a breathable moisture barrier that keeps spills and pet accidents from soaking onto the cushion. It is available in bonded construction and comes in .035 and .045 weights.

• Stainmaster Plus with the SpillNet Protection System makes it easier to maintain beautiful carpet year after year. Though no specific health claims are made concerning the SpillNet Protection system, Griffith said, it does use a special antimicrobial treatment called Fresh Dimension that fights the growth of odor-causing mold, mildew and fungus in the cushion. The cushion also has a bottom dirt barrier that blocks the migration of dust and dirt from beneath the cushion. It is also available in .350 and .450 weights. This line will be available to all retailers.

• Stainmaster Ultra Life offers unsurpassed support for carpet, he noted, with a construction that allows the cushion to absorb the shock of everyday foot traffic to help carpet keep its original good looks over time. The Stainmaster Ultra Life cushion also features the SpillNet Protection System, the Fresh Dimension treatment and the Z-lex odor and stain removal spray. This line will be exclusively available to Stainmaster Flooring Center locations.

“All Stainmaster carpet cushion products, when used with Stainmaster carpet, will extend the limited warranties of Stainmaster carpet (including limited stain resistance, limited soil resistance, limited abrasive wear and limited texture retention),” Griffith said.

The technology keeps spills on top of the cushion for easy removal during cleaning, and the bottom barrier of the cushion blocks dust migration up through the cushion. “As a result,” he concluded, “the carpet maintains its original beauty and appearance. The cushion also provides comfort and support for the carpet and prevents liquids and soil from seeping through the cushion to the subfloor, which can cause damage.”
