 Philosophy:

My intent has always been to provide extremely high quality design, furniture, construction and finish work. I have focused on the architectural design and craft of Japan, the Pacific Rim and Africa.

The simplicity and harmony of the crafts and art of indigenous culture provide a deep well of inspiration, not only for my period designs, but also contemporary work.

 Bio:

I have lived in cities and in the country all over the U.S. As a boy I loved the mountains, woods and the water. Also as a boy I loved making things. I attended college and grad school, studying science biology and the arts. By the time I graduated I was already producing furniture, sculpture and art. Unable to find a master to apprentice with, I taught myself. I read everything I could find about carpentry, woodworking and boat-building. I studied print making, ceramics, drawing and painting. Gradually a style and direction began to emerge. I think honest portrayal of the designs and the materials used to express them is most important to me. I try very hard to maintain a hand crafted, as opposed to a machine made quality in my work. My work seeks to express a sublime spirit, similar to that seen in a great old tree or a wind sculpted rock.
