Brothers Vince and Scoot Gallagher started Planned Furnishings in 1978 out of a two hundred square foot office at 107 N Main Street, Gainesville. FL. Their goal was and remains, to sell name brand furniture at deeply reduced prices.

Patterning their business after the North Carolina discounters, the Gallagher’s special ordered furniture at 40% to 50% off the manufacturer’s retail prices, becoming among the first discounters in Florida to do so.

As their business grew, they moved into larger quarters along the way, ultimately settling into their existing building at 527 W University Avenue, some twenty times larger than their original digs.

Brother Vince left the business in 1985 to pursue a career in law which he has practiced, in Jacksonville, for the past twenty-five years. Since that time, the business has grown, adding a large assortment of wood flooring and carpet to their furniture offerings. Scoot’s son Evan joined the company in 2004, greatly expanding sales of wood flooring, making Planned Furnishings one of the major players in the Gainesville area. Evan now runs the business since May of 2014 when Scoot retired.
