Joanne Gigliotti
has been involved in the artistic process throughout her life, seeing things in her unique way, recognizing the beauty in ordinary things. Most of her work has been created in medium of batik painting. Having used this resist method of painting working on fabric then rag board, she now batiks individual ceramic tiles and tile murals. She is represented in permanent collections including The National Museum for Women in the Arts, The McCormick Collection, The Westinghouse Collection, and The London Library. A painter, tile artist, teacher, and activist for the importance of the fine arts, she was the former director of The Smithsonian Associate’s Studio Arts Department. Ms. Gigliotti has shown work in over seventy one-woman and juried exhibitions across the United States. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting, Design, and Sculpture from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Education degree in Art from The Pennsylvania State University. She is included in Who's Who in American Art, as well as in Who's Who in the East, as an artist and art administrator. Currently working on and exhibiting her own work, her participation in the visual arts also includes, doing commissioned work, mentoring and assisting young and emerging artists, and teaching specialized and master classes.
