carpet density
Carpet Density Density refers to a complex correlation of tufted yarn specifications, including pile height, essentially indicating how tightly the fiber is stitched into the carpet backing. Typically, the more yarn a carpet contains, the higher its density and the heavier its face weight.
Since cut pile carpet yarns are tufted and cut in an upright position, the tips are subjected to pressure and wear; a dense construction creates a resilient surface resistant to wear and matting. Higher density also affects the carpet's appearance and usually provides a more comfortable walking surface. See Also: Face Weight | Twist | Durability | Fiber ©2010 FloorBiz, Inc.
