No excuse in not being informed...

First and foremost, I am not condoning poor or deceptive sales practices.

That said, is there really any excuse in anyone being un-informed concerning a product or service today. The Internet has it's share of problems, but one of them isn't a shortage of information on any subject, product, service, etc., etc., etc...

For instance, let's say you're interested in a carpet that shows little or no tracking/footprints. All you would have to do is Google 'footprint-free carpet', or 'trackless carpet' and you will find a wealth of information.

With this information, you walk into a store armed and dangerous. You will actually know what to specifically ask for turning the saleman into a virtual tour-guide.

A real neat feature of the Internet is checking reviews of any product or service. If a company or product has been receiving complaints, 9 out of 10 times, they will be on the World Wide Web for all to see. All you would need to do is Google 'armstrong laminate reviews' (randomly chose Armstrong) and then read...

You are right David.

Same is true for Standards, Installation specifications and General Information concerning Flooring materials.
In fact, we inspectors often inspect homes where the consumer has done their homework on the net and KNOW the installation was improper or the material defective.

Those consumers who are not afraid of the computer and internet can no longer be taken advantage of.

Another reason why we have 15 to 20 clients in the litigation process at all times. Few ever go to court, but many lawsuits are filed after we've performed the inspection.

Today's consumers are educated. Most of the "Old People's" homes I inspect have computers and they are on the internet.. Mostly to communicate with children/grandchildren,,,,,,,,,,,,, but they are savvy enough to do their homework !!

I agree, I tell people when they ask me questions that almost all manufactures installation guidelines can be accessed on the web if they have any concerns about if the installation was performed correctly or not.

Also, some manufactures do not have complete instructions on the box or on the bucket of adhesive either, so one muct access it on the web or call an 800 number and get it faxed. Of ya ain't got a fax them they can emailed it.
