This has been a very informative post for me and hopefully for others reading here who have the same interest. I’m personally grateful to have all of you who choose to help me through my journeys were ever it may go. Selva I don’t think Ray would lead anyone in the wrong direction although I’m not so sure about this comment it Just don’t seem to add up.
( 4 inspections in that area in the last 4 years.............. IF that tells you anything.)
Ray I think someone else may be working this area as well. I was thinking may be IICRC for the cleaning end of things although I do see that FCITS is more installer oriented but there are so many groups out to chooses from and to make a decision at this time would be premature. So I’ve decide to do more reading on all of the topics here and take Roger advice and formulate a plan and work towards each goal. I know there’s got to be more information that is needed but I just can’t come up with it at this time.

Remember; Quest is a National Inspection service and a small one at that. So four in four years is only an indication of what is going on in that area. There is another inspector; but he works for Home Depot. Another guy travels in from The Central area of Florida, then myself. We cannot use the home depot guy and refuse to use the Central of the state guy............. that leaves me for Quest so we have informed our clients that we'll now travel the 904 area on a route basis. Be up there next week. Going to Daytona Beach first, then up that direction.

Darian,
Another thought came to mind; job starts. Some of the oommercial carpet mills hire great installers for job starts. Masland, Atlas and others.
This might be right up your alley!

Home Depot needs to hire somone for jobs starts on all their wood jobs. The guy here who runs ariound with his CME has no clue what he is doing. Heck for that matter they need to hire soemone to go about the whole country and check the way they do job starts on everything.
I talked to one salesman there and they said they do CaCl tests on all wood jobs. I have yet to have them acknowledge that they did in fact perform that test on any claim.

If HD comes with benefits that would be a good job.

there is this guy with four stores, I gave a few of his employees in the Columbia, SC stores a short class a few weeks ago to get an idea of what they don't know, 1. in both stores, there were sales people who did not know what "joists" were, in one store, a manager 2. one lady told me at the beginning she did not need or want to know anything about installation standards or requirements,,,she sales whatever the person picks out, she got up, left the table we were sitting around. 3. no knowledge of tile standards, freeze, thaw, indoor or outdoor, 4. no knowledge of tile installation requirements, one wanted to know what OSB was, another, why not install tile over 24oc osb.. 5. they were using pin meters to test everything, including vinyl,,,I had to explain they need to test the concrete and wood before installation, not after, and pin meters are best only for wood,,,they were placing the pins on the concrete...question for Ray, pin meters and "conductivity" , on the salts from concrete? how to ask this question? you figure it out. 6. they sell no unfinished wood. and refuse to consider it. 7. They had never seen a concrete meter,,,or a moisture encounter meter... 8. in both stores, all employees did not know the difference between staples and cleats, and why it mattered. 9. both stores, why not water base adhesive for all types of wood? why not just whatever is left over to save a buck? serious, they asked that,, carpet or vinyl, does not matter, just grab the bucket and go. 10. there was much more and many more misunderstands and , dumbness, but the best question both stores asked me, 'why was I wasting their time with nonsense stuff', after all both stores said, it was my job to blame the installer so they could keep their commissions,,,I told them no, the owner wants to know when it is them selling the wrong product and installation, and he was going to start withholding commissions like they try to withhold some installers money. 11. talk about some pissed off people,

| 6/24/2008 12:21:56 PM speaking of meters, how many inspectors know this
quote: Acclimation Time Hood chamber must equilibrate for seventy-two hour prior to taking relative humidity measurements. Hood must be sealed to the concrete. Humidity Probe Data Recording The probe must reach temperature equilibrium before measuring relative humidity. The probe must be at the same temperature as the concrete before reading. The meter reading must not drift more than 1 % relative humidity over five minutes. Record the relative humidity to the nearest percent and the temperature to the nearest degree. Record the location and depth of the probe (depth to the nearest .04 of an inch). The slab temperature, relative humidity air temperature above the concrete slab and due point must also be recorded. Probe Calibration Probes should be calibrated at least one a year. Probes must be from a manufacturer with a NIST-traceable calibration. Certificate must state the range of calibration and the accuracy over that range. Probes must be calibrated at least 95 % relative humidity and lower relative humidity levels. Probes should be calibrated within thirty days of testing. The ASTM may be changed to: “Humidity probes should be purchased with a NIST traceable certificate which should be renewed annually. It is recommended that probes are checked against a know standard such as a set aside unused NIST calibrated probe on a month basis."

The question should be: "how many installers know meters exist"?
I'm grateful that most installers don't own meters and those who do, don't know how to use them.
Due to the internet exposure; I'm given the opportunity to inspect flooring failures that could have been avoided if the installer had a meter to test the sub-floor prior to installation. End users are using the internet to hire their own expert rather than leaving it to the retailer.
Life is good. Too short, but good. Too soon old, too late smart.

what inspectors?
Give me a list. You continue to make blanket statements that are false.
Support your statements with facts and findable documentation.
If you cannot support your statement; don't say it.

Ray is in a bad mood, work must be slow for next week,,,, but then Ray, it is always slow this time of year, and being a very slow time for biz, slower than past years, relax, go easy on the coffee, have a cig, chill dude, chill dude. why don't you go to a little league ball game,,,, now, no more teasing,,,,I strongly suggest that anytime this biz gets to you, go to a children's ball game of some type, and just watch the sheer joy of kids playing....and laugh, I rode my bike this past week to night games, the breeze on my face, watching the kids play, and, well, ok, checking out the young Moms is ok too!

I get in bad moods when there is more to do than I can get done...
I tend to "shut down" when over worked and overscheduled.
Right now I'm swamped with work from all sources except manufacturing. LOTS and lots of calls from internet users. I had one slow week then the flood gates opened. I know you won't believe that Selva, so call and ask Linda or Audrey.
David Kern: Thank you for the exposure given to users of this site. It all helps.

I don't go to parks to peer at little children or their mothers....
Somehow,,, this "thing" of yours does not sound good. Maybe you should go spy/peer/leer/gawk someplace else.

well, always looking for the bad and negative,,,,and the worse in people when it is not there,,,you see, you always judge people thru your own eyes,,,,and if that is what you see, then, you are right, you don't belong there,,,,
but, if you can see the joy of play, their happiness, the pride of their parents, and grandparents, friends and neighbors who go to watch and enjoy, then, all that evil you keep seeing in others from your eyes will disappear....peace to you, and I hope you find joy and happiness in this life.
