This is porcelain tile. but think it is porcelain glaze, not porcelain.

I need to learn more about this porcelain glaze compared to porcelain tile.

what do you know about it Dave?

the reason I ask: Chipped tile from dropped objects is becoming a popular complaint because the folks bought porcelain and should have same color all the way through and not chip so easily

Stephen, Here are the Standards for Mixing Grout

ANSI Standards:
A-4.7.5 Mixing grout
A-4.7.5.1 General
A-4.7.5.1.1 Machine mixing of grout is preferred
to assure a uniform blend. To prevent trapping air
bubbles into the prepared grout, use a slow speed
mixer.
A-4.7.5.1.2 Slake for 15 minutes.

NOTE: Slow Speed Mixer.

Yes, it does not say you have to mix by hand. Just wanted you to understand that.

I use a hammerdrill to mix with my paddle. You probably will not believe this but there is this trigger on it that allows you to use variable speeds!! Imagine such a tool is really made. Smile

Funny thing is if I slaked it for fifteen minutes at the temps we work at (even with mixed with ice water) the grout would only be good for beating myself against the head.

UPDATE

quote:
Inspected this one today... Consumer direct.

The retailer called me yesterday.
1. Upset over the fee and had to re-imburse the consumer. Stated she had her whole house inspected for that much, or a little more.
2. Don't know why consumer called me because they were repairing grout that same day.
3. Wants to know my license. Gave her my Web page address.
