I would suggest that the manufacturers stop using strapping tape and use something like a wrapping plastic--like other manufacturers use on other construction materials.
On the job I'm on, whoever put the strapping tape on did so kinda tight, starting about 8 feet in and it created such a pull in the material, that it showed a rise in the carpet about 25 feet down the roll.
On jets, the carpet cannot be stretched or glued with other than velcro.
On this ---about 80 foot roll, I had to start from the back end of the carpet so the areas that were affected fo into hopefully areas not seen as much.
