I'd love to
have a discussion about carpet and dust, allergens and microbial life that carpet harbors. It's all about maintenance ya know and in my many years of tearing out old carpet I found that it can be the most disgusting and demeaning thing to do in an installers life.
Stephen I'm sorry I didn't know you were still working in the low end market. Yea I know what you mean that market your in is the ones who can't afford the maintenance.
BTW do you pull the old carpet up to do wood? That must feel disgusting and demeaning.

I will not pull up stinky pee'd or deficated on crapet. And especially haull it away.
I tell them to remove it themselves. I have seen rich people with disgusting carpet. I have seen poor and middle class people with clean carpet.
I see carpet installers driving around town with old rotten tear out on top of another new roll. If I saw that coming up my drive I would tell them to take it back to the shop.
Since when did installers have to become garbage men?

It is a great filter,
one type of complaint is called "soil filtration lines" , you see
them at doorways and in the gullies....
Carpet is a "trap" for all types of contaminates that fall from the
air into the carpet. Once in there, with the Rh factor, a lot of it
bonds with the fibers,,,sometimes they release in dry climes
such as heating seasons, and that causes those 9 month running
noses,,,,
many people have to have carpet removed from homes,,,,carpet
traps soil, most vacuum cleaners vacuum up the contaminates
only to release them back into the air,,,when people vacuum,
unless it has the special filter, that is the time the air is most
contaminated or dirty,,,,pet hair, people skin waste, spills, drips,
tracked in soil, air from outside with dust and particles, it all,
ends up, in the carpet...
now, all that, on a hard surface, ends up there also,,,but, they
are easier to clean since none will bond to them like it does to
fibers,,,,the electrical charge of some fibers is a bonding agent.

So true Selva, but if you had carpet and you know what you know today, would you not take certain measures to make sure your carpet does not end up like this situation?
Also when soil filtration falls on hard surface
can it be kick back up in to the air?
Let’s say I have three kids two dogs and a cat that lives with me and my wife. All yea I all most forgot all the kids in the neighborhood to. All of us are in and out of the house throughout the day. I really want clean air for my family. How many time a day should I sweep or mop my floors.

yes, but, is it trapped there to smell up your house?
this can go on all day, pro and con,,,,some say, it is best to trap
the soil and particles to keep it in the carpet until
cleaning,,,problem is, most people don't have their carpet
cleaned...

interesting, first, Professional Testing Labs only test carpet, so,
any decline in carpet sales directly affects them,,,also, while a
certified lab, they have a strong vested interest in protecting
carpet.....

Oh boy we all need to become nudist. We all wear cloth's and If I remmber it is a soft product ( that is an idea I can make hardwood pants. ) Your cloth's carrys dust mits from in and out side the home not to say all the dead skin that can get on them but we still put them on every day, why because we understand we need to keep them clean. This topic has been beat back and forth for years on what is better but I think the real issue is we need to make sure our customer understands how to care for their products that are put in their home. Now lets look at our hair ( something I do not have to worry about ) or even our pets hair I would hate to see what is in them after a long day and your hair is right by your face and you think nothing of putting your face right next to your pets.
What I am saying is you need to know your life style and put in what fits best for you.
I install all flooring so I am not just pushing carpet but it is up to me to listen to my customer and their needs and then recommend to them the best and then tell them how to care for it to keep from having issue's.
Just one more question what keeps dust and other
things from getting traped in the little gaps of hardwood and do you think that damp mopping get's it out?

No I am not agreeing with you what I am saying it doe's not matter what kind of floor is you need to take care of it. I have been in many homes that have Hardwood and laminate and there is dust and filth every where.

up to the top of the yarn! by then, the house stinks and people are
coughing, eyes watering, sneezing, and headaches.

I agree Selva most people have problem finding the time for cleaning and wood is easier to clean. Wait a minute where’s all that soil and particles going to go until they have it cleaned. How about furniture, pillow’s, clothes, ect. Looks like the house is still smelly and now the clothes will be smelly to.

can we afford to clean our carpet each day? week? month? the
mills say, at least once a year,,,think of all that would be in your
cloths, same cloths, worn each day for a year without
washing them,,,,,
there you go,,,so, who is going to clean carpet each week,
month?
thanks for the example,
couches and such? well, if we are lying on them dirty, hot,
sweaty, and doing all kinds of activities that "share" body
offerings of all types, yes, should be cleaned each day, week,
month, and yes, furniture mills also clean,,,
who is going to clean them each day, week, ??? most people do
wipe them down, and have them cleaned with their carpets,,,,
but, truth is, most people sit in a chair or on a couch,,,with their
cloths on, clean,,,,did your Mom let you sit on the furniture when
you came in from playing hot, dirty, sweaty? 99% will say, no.
so,,,, last, why do we sit IN a chair, and sit ON a couch?

that carpet is a sink that needs to
