• Columbia Flooring. The hardwood flooring mill has announced three new appointments to the company’s sales and marketing organization.

Steven Abels has joined the company as sales manager, national accounts; Joanna Beckman has been appointed creative services manager; and Erica Poteat has been hired as marketing services coordinator.

In his new role at Columbia, Abels will be responsible for developing retail-cooperative and national accounts business.

Beckman will oversee Columbia’s photography and print production. Poteat, who will report to Beckman, has a marketing and retail background.

“As Columbia’s growth continues to accelerate, we’ve expanded our sales and marketing team to bolster our brand,” said David Wootton, Columbia’s president.

• Green River Lumber. The high-end hardwood flooring mill has promoted Paul Mihlek and Jill Barrett Johnson to the positions of director of sales and vice president of operations, respectively. The advancements are effective immediately.

Mihlek’s background includes the study of drafting and architecture.

As vice president of operations, Barrett Johnson will be responsible for all aspects of mill operations as well as human resources. She began work at Green River in 1992. The company, founded by her brothers Will Barrett and Peter Barrett in 1974, has become a leader in the production of natural hardwood flooring.

• Madison Leathers. The leather tile producer, which has more than five generations of expertise in the manufacturing of premium quality Italian leathers for preeminent Italian fashion designers, is introducing wood-backed Leather Tiles, a dramatic and luxurious interior design solution for wall and floor, noted a spokesperson for the company.

Fabricated with high quality vegetable-dyed leather, the tiles are attached to wood 1.1 mm thick. A tongue-and-groove configuration is utilized to facilitate installation. Plastic supports can be substituted for the wood to accommodate nautical environments. The tongue-and-groove technique allows the tiles to fit tightly without gapping.

Preverco. The wood manufacturer is investing $2.5 million to improve the production efficiency of its advanced hardwood floors.

This investment will not only increase production at its facility, it will also allow it to offer customers a wider range of products and an even faster turnaround on purchase orders while still receiving the high quality flooring of a Preverco product, noted Julien Dufresne, the company’s vice president of sales and marketing.
