Creative Edge Master Shop, the company which 25-plus years ago pioneered using space-age waterjet cutting to produce one-of-a-kind architectural designs in natural, was a recipient of a major
Marble Institute of America (MIA) Pinnacle award for its “Spotlight on Times Square” project. The award was given to the firm’s President/Founder, Jim Belilove, at the recent Surfaces Exposition in Las Vegas, NV on January 22nd.
The Marble Institute of America (MIA) Pinnacle Awards are given to projects whose beauty, creativity, ingenuity, and craftsmanship exemplify professional mastery in the use of natural stone in commercial and residential environments. The award, which was presented to Belilove by Tony Malisani of Malisani, Inc., 2014 MIA President, was for the “commercial exteriors” category.
The project consisted of huge map with precision waterjet-cut pieces of solid granite and stainless steel, which was used for the letters in the map. One challenge was to make sure the 2-foot steel letters had, according to Belilove, “a non-slippery finish that would hold up with 375,000 people walking over it daily for the next 100 years. There were a surprising amount of details to be thought through when creating something like this."
