Boca Raton, Fla.—Former founding owner of area rug manufacturer Trans Ocean Import Co., Ralph Shulman passed away here recently. He was 89 years old.

Shulman joined Trans Ocean in 1934. He served in the Air Force in World War II and participated in the first land-based attack on Japan from Saipan. He rejoined Trans Ocean in 1945 and became a principal in 1967. Shulman retired to Boca Raton at the end of June 1985.

“Ralph Shulman was instrumental for many of the merchandising and sales successes for the firm,” said Allan Wagenheim, chairman of Trans Ocean. “His great personality and determination helped Trans Ocean’s growth, making it one of the leaders in the area rug industry. He will be missed.”

He is survived by his wife, Zelda, son, Richard and granddaughter, Renee.
