November 14, 2013 - Jimmy Reed, one of the world’s top custom tile designers and the leading expert on the installation of glass mosaic tile pools and spas, shared in the renewed optimism and positive vibe the industry took home from the 2013 International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo hosted by the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. Produced by Hanley Wood and the Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP), this year’s bustling annual event (Nov. 9-14) managed to break through the clouds that have blanketed the show and backyards everywhere for way too long.

After launching Rock Solid Tile, Inc. more than 35 years ago in Los Angeles, Jimmy Reed has been leaving his artistic touch in the design and masterful installation of glass mosaic tile pools and spas throughout the super-affluent foothill neighborhoods of West LA (think Beverly Hills). That’s a whole lot of experience, not to mention plenty of time to build hundreds of lasting relationships with so many pool and spa professionals. During the show Reed has always had a packed schedule of meetings, many times putting on training sessions or installation demonstrations that keep him busy. The post-show hours are often the only time left to get together with old friends and build new ones in the pool and spa industry. This year was no different. Reed, California born and raised, even braved the frigid conditions at the minus5° Ice Bar on the Vegas Strip with a group of close friends to close out the 2013 International Pool | Spa | Patio Expo.

“The show was definitely more upbeat this year,” said Reed. “Hanley Wood and ASPS have always produced great shows with opportunities to learn, network and see the latest technology and products. The problem has been the economy in general and the impact it’s had on our industry. This year the floor was busier and louder and the attitude felt more positive. Hopefully we’ve turned the corner.”
