Learn of a family’s remarkable survival against unbelievable odds as Qais Akbar Omar, manager of a family carpet business in Kabul, Afghanistan, tells the story of living through a brutal civil war and Taliban rule from his memoir, A Fort of Nine Towers, which the New York Times Book Review says is "…mind-boggling yet matter-of-fact. ‘A Fort of Nine Towers’ is the memoir of a childhood in '90s Afghanistan - a riveting story of war as seen through a child's eyes and summoned from an adult's memory." With the help of pictures of the fort of nine towers and other sites mentioned in the book, Omar will explain why it is important for Americans to understand Afghanistan’s rich culture, history, and traditions. Autographed copies of his book will be available for purchase.

Dover is pleased to present an evening celebrating the world's most intricate and beautiful art form – rug making. This presentation is a “cultural experience” that offers guests a rare glimpse into the world of rug-making, with a showing of the acclaimed documentary “The Colors of India.” Guest will also partake in traditional Indian food, beverages and music. All guests also receive: free rug appraisal compliments of the sponsor, Dover Rug & Home; a $100 Dover Rug & Home gift certificate good towards a purchase of $1,000 or more, and a chance to win a beautiful hand-knotted rug.

Learn about the world’s oldest art form – rug weaving! Enjoy live weaving demonstrations and learn from experts the “stories” behind some unusual antique and oriental rugs. Guests will enjoy the award-winning video “The Colors of India - A rug making journey” (on-going) and can bring in their oriental rug to receive a FREE appraisal. All guests receive a $100 gift certificate toward a purchase of $1,000 or more.
