Fiorano, 14th October 2011 - Big names in international design appeared together with Mutina for new collections which were introduced as a world preview at the 2011 edition of Cersaie. Rodolfo Dordoni, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec have created ceramic projects which are absolutely unique for inspiration and shape, while Patricia Urquiola as the designer of the new exhibition space, which was doubled this year, brought to life the stunning scenery of the Mutina projects. The space has won the "CERSAIE 2011 AWARD" for the best design exhibit.
Visitors have found the space, specifically designed for display in Bologna, as a sort of creative agora, from which one path leads to 5 separate settings totally dedicated to the projects by Mutina: Pico by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Stage and Toile by Rodolfo Dordoni, Phenomenon by Tokujin Yoshioka, Déchirer and Bas Relief by Patricia Urquiola and Folded by Raw & Edges, together with Flow and Ceramica by Mutina Design.
It was a very innovative use of size chosen by Rodolfo Dordoni for the collections TOILE and STAGE, 80x180 with submultiples. It was also a very unique TOILE idea of incorporating ceramic design in creations such as soft tapestry, baroque damask, and eastern silk.
"The idea of the project gives a sense of movement to the surface, almost in a natural, continuous flow, which aim is to modify the perception of the material - Dordoni explains - The result is an unstretched fabric whose soft irregular shadows create a surprising three-dimensional effect and an unusually soft sensation".
STAGE, the second proposal by Dordoni, is similar, "in that it is not a reproduction of the material it resembles, but offers instead an account of time that has passed - the designer continues - time that has altered the surface, smoothing the reliefs as well as the structure. The worn texture is the life-story of a deceptive material".
Substance constitutes the matter, in a physical and metaphysical sense, regarding the ceramic collection PICO, designed by Bouroullec brothers. The collection comes in three differently coloured bases composed of specific mineral mixtures that produce surfaces with surprising superficial and shade expressions, giving a sensual and intense surface feel.
"In this collection we have worked on defining a regular/irregular texture, the result is the declension of two relief surfaces: Down with sunken dots and Up with elevated dots - Bouroullec explains - the color contrast underlines the relief effect, creating light shades and giving to the tiles once a colder appearance, once a warmer one, as one prefers."
