MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—For the last 25 years, J.J.Haines has treated customers to a fun-filled three-day golf and fishing event here. To celebrate the silver anniversary, the industry’s largest distributor hosted over 70 guests at the plush Royal Palms Resort with ocean view rooms for all.

“This has always been a great event and we have always tried to raise the bar each year for our customers to enjoy,” said John Cumbea, sales manager for Haines and coordinator of this event. “This year was no exception. Twenty-five years ago, the event was just for the golfers, but it now has something for everyone.”

Buddy Evans of Another Carpet II in Virginia Beach, Va., said he has attended many industry events but this one was a first for him. “This was one of the best trips I ever attended.”

He had plenty of reasons to feel this way. Evans’ 40-pound red drum was the winning fish from this year’s tournament and helped him secure $1,300 in prize money, which Haines kicked in as part of the 25-year celebration.

At the dinner banquet, Bruce Zwicker , CEO of J.J. Haines, announced the money would become an annual prize at the event.

Unlike Evans, Mike Anders, owner of A&B Carpets in Zebulon N.C., is a veteran of the Haines event and still enjoys attending because of the “friends I have made over the years. Haines is not just a supplier: It is like family. This is a first class company and a first class trip.”
