The selling points and benefits of ceramic tile
Article Number: 6449

Ceramic tile is durable and long lasting. A properly installed ceramic tile floor will outperform and outlast nearly any other floor covering product created for the same application. Unlike carpet, vinyl or laminate flooring, which have to be replaced periodically, properly installed tile will last a lifetime, maybe longer.

Ceramic tile is hypoallergenic. Tile is inhospitable to dust mites, mold, germs and bacteria, and is often used to replace carpet for people with allergies or asthma.

Ceramic tile is fire resistant. It doesn’t burn or emit toxic fumes. Even hot kitchen pans or skillets can’t scorch or melt the surface of glazed ceramic tile. Consider candles, fireplaces and cigarettes.

Ceramic tile is water resistant. Most glazed ceramic tile has a dense body that permits little or no moisture accumulation. It is one of the only materials that can withstand flooding.

Ceramic tile is fade resistant. Unaffected by UV rays, it is one of the only products rendered in color that does not fade.

Ceramic tile is easy to clean. Glazed ceramic tile resists stains, odors and dirt and can be cleaned with a damp mop or common household cleaners.

Ceramic tile can be spot repaired. Removal and replacement of the entire floor is not necessary to fix a problem area.

Tile is economical. Ceramic tile costs less per year than all other floors over the life of a building. In fact, tile is less than $.40 per square foot per year. Carpet and vinyl are significantly more expensive due to their shorter expected life.

Ceramic tile contributes to LEED points. Based on product and location, specifiers can earn points for Recycled Materials Content (MR Credits 4.1 and 4.2); Regional Materials (MR Credit 5.1 and 5.2); Low-Emitting Materials (EQ Credit 4.3) and Heat Island Effect (SS Credit 7.1).

Ceramic tile is recyclable. Factories today are “closed loop,” reusing water and materials. They send only negligible amounts of scrap to landfills and waste water to treatment facilities.

Ceramic tile can be installed over existing tile. This reduces waste and new substrate material. With a thin format, you can put tile over an existing floor changing the height as little as 4mil.

Ceramic tile is versatile. Modern manufacturing technology has created a virtually limitless number of colors, sizes, styles, shapes and textures that can add beauty and character to any installation.
