LAS VEGAS—
Mapei last month recognized those customers who participated in the American Forests Global ReLeaf program. Luigi Di Geso, president and CEO, Mapei Americas, awarded “golden shovels” to representatives from its top three companies: Lumber Liquidators,
Swiff-Train and C&C Wholesale Distributors.
“These shovels represent the acres of trees that American Forests volunteers planted as a result of these companies’ sales of Mapei wood adhesive products in 2010,” Di Geso said. “Thanks to their efforts and the efforts of all our distributors who took part in this project, we exceeded our goal of 200,000 trees.”
In 2010, Mapei launched a line of eco-friendly urethane adhesives for all types of wood floors in commercial and residential projects. As part of a socially sustainable promotion for the new line, the company contributed $1 to American Forests’ Global ReLeaf program from every wood urethane product sold. Each dollar represents one tree planted to help reforest areas lost to fires and other disasters. Mapei contributed $224,296 for the year.
Jim Christian, president, C&C Wholesale, said the company was very enthusiastic to participate in a program that recognizes the importance of environmental stewardship. “Mapei and C&C recognize our corporate responsibility toward promoting sustainability, and our participation in the American Forests Global ReLeaf program was a wonderful opportunity to make a tangible contribution toward this goal.”
Mapei is continuously working to make positive changes to the environment, Di Geso said. “We’re proud our products can play such an important role.” The company’s new Ultrabond ECO wood adhesives also contribute points toward LEED certification. In addition to emitting low VOCs, they are phthalate free and were developed using a rapidly renewal, natural base, raw material.
