Boa-Franc Mirage: Being naturally responsible has always been who we are; it’s in our roots
Article Number: 6232

Mirage has shown a passionate commitment to protecting natural resources since our earliest days. From participating in reforestation projects to recycling at our facilities, Mirage is always looking for new ways to protect the Earth while improving our products and caring for our customers.

Throughout our operations and facilities, Mirage runs a rigorous wood and waste recycling program—100% of wood waste is repurposed: 10% is used to fuel our boilers, the rest is sold and transformed into products such as logs and pellets for heating, wood fiber panels and farm animal bedding.

Mirage also takes concrete steps for a better air quality. Our finishes do not release VOCs, including formaldehyde. Mirage Lock products are certified to be in full compliance with CARB 93120—California’s airborne toxic control measure to reduce formaldehyde emissions.

Mirage cares about reducing greenhouse gas emissions. To that end, over 90% of our purchased volume of domestic species comes from sawmills within 500 miles of our plant.

All Mirage Engineered and Mirage Lock products in red Oak, maple, Canadian Breza and yellow Birch are eligible for FSC Mixed Source certification. Mirage products are also PEFC certified. That means they come from certified producers committed to meeting healthy forestry management standards. They also meet the industry’s strictest pollution-control standards. On top of that, Mirage ensures full compliance with the U.S. Lacey Act, legislation to ban the use of illegally sourced natural resources and species threatened with extinction.

We’re always working to offer environmental products that qualify for LEED credits from both the U.S. and Canadian green building councils.

In 2007, we developed Mirage Lock, a glueless engineered hardwood floor that can be easily moved and reused. It is hypoallergenic; it can be installed cleanly, with no dust from sanding or organic vapors.

Mirage Lock is made of a high density fiberboard (HDF) core containing wood made from 100% post-industrial recycled fiber. The ultra-thick wearlayer uses six times less hardwood than conventional 3/4-inch solid wood to cover the same floor surface.

Mirage’s other hardwood flooring products also offer real environmental benefits. For example, Mirage Engineered features a wearlayer using four times less hardwood than conventional 3/4-inch solid wood for the same surface while Mirage Classic comes in various board lengths to minimize the waste of natural resources.

Since 2010, our Bali Coco can now be ordered under FSC Mixed Source certification. This green initiative is added to numerous ones that make Bali Coco an environmentally friendly choice. For example, the manufacturing process we developed for Bali Coco brings out all the natural pigments of Canadian Breza, a local species, for an exotic look that doesn’t have to be shipped thousands of miles. All Mirage Lock and Mirage Engineered products in red oak, maple, and yellow birch are also eligible for FSC Mixed Source certification.
