VANCOUVER, WASH.—The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) is looking for volunteers to assist with the third draft of the R800 Reference Guide for Carpet Inspection.
“As with each new standard or reference guide IICRC drafts, we’re looking for professionals who are dedicated to moving this forward,” said Bill Doan, committee chair for R800.
The most recent draft of the guide is not so recent, from 1996. “It needs to be updated to 2010— nothing really needs to be re- written,” said
FCNews “Claims File” columnist Lew Migliore, vice chair of the R800 committee and president of LGM & Associates Technical Flooring Services, who was chosen as vice chair because of his involvement in the inspection industry since he began in the industry in the 1970s.
The guide will cover problematic topics such as local spots and stains, poor side match, delamination, dimensional instability, bond failure, fuzzing and pilling, and shedding.
Anyone affected by the carpet inspector’s reference guides is encouraged to volunteer for the committee. Acceptance is non- contingent upon any organization membership but will be determined by the standards consultant, committee chair and vice chair.
The committee will be comprised of 12 to 15 voting members and 20 volunteers assigned to subcommittees to meet twice a year with its first meeting at Surfaces 2010 in Las Vegas from Feb. 1 to 4. Completion of the draft is expected within 36 months.
