Berkeley Analytical Achieves ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation, Manufacturers Benefit from Accredited Testing
Article Number: 4834

September 9, 2009 – Richmond, CA – Berkeley Analytical, an independent chemical emissions testing laboratory for product compliance with LEED, CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools), and other rating and certification systems, is now accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005, General criteria for the competency of testing laboratories. Accreditation demonstrates Berkeley Analytical’s technical competence for the methods in its scope, and for the operation and effectiveness of its laboratory Quality Management System.

“Customers depend on reliable testing of organic chemicals to advance product performance and reduce chemical risks to human health and the environment,” says Raja Tannous, co-founder and laboratory director for Berkeley Analytical. “During the accreditation process we submitted our laboratory’s Quality Management System and our primary test methods to thorough review, and we’re pleased to have independent validation that we deliver consistently high quality services to our customers.”

Leading building product and furniture manufacturers turn to Berkeley Analytical to independently test and verify that their products meet the emissions criteria of product certification and verification programs, and comply with building rating systems (e.g., LEED and CHPS). Berkeley Analytical is an approved laboratory for the RFCI FloorScore® program; Scientific Certification Systems’ Indoor Advantage™ and Indoor Advantage Gold™ certification programs; the new ICC-ES Sustainable Attributes Verification and Evaluation™ program (SAVE™); and CHPS.

ISO/IEC 17025 is the international standard by which a laboratory’s commitment to quality is evaluated. ISO/IEC 17025:2005 not only considers management and technical expertise, but emphasizes continual improvement of customer service and of the overall Quality Management System.

International Accreditation Service (IAS) awarded accreditation to Berkeley Analytical in April 2009. Customers may now list Berkeley Analytical as an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited supplier in their own quality systems.

Berkeley Analytical’s accredited test methods include: CA/DHS/EHLB/R-174, 2004 (CA DHS Standard Practice); ANSI/BIFMA M7.1-2007; ASTM Standards D 5116, D 5197, D 6007, D 6670 and D 7339; and U.S. EPA Compendium Methods TO-1 and TO-17.
