DEERFIELD BEACH, FLA.—Better understanding the wants and needs of customers is always a good thing. From gaining a deeper knowledge of the “voice of the customer” to better matching product development with client needs, especially during tough economic times are two key reasons to finding ways to know thy customer.

Armed with this understanding, Mapei has created an advisory board representing the contractor community. Developed to help define industry issues and predict future trends the Mapei Contractor Council “will help us continue to produce ‘Technology You Can Build On,’” noted Brian Pistulka, the manufacturer’s new business development manager. “By inviting the Contractor Council members to become a part of the Mapei planning process, we are achieving a much deeper understanding of what they need to succeed,” he added.

As part of the program, Pistulka explained Mapei encourages an open dialogue with rotating sets of flooring contractors from across the country. The invitation-only meetings focus on discussion, where participants are encouraged to “call it the way they see it and give honest and incisive feedback from hands-on demos. The sessions are real-world focused on challenges the contractors face daily, and brainstorming is used to suggest solutions Mapei can provide through its innovative Research & Development Department.”

From the meetings so far, Pistulka said council members have evaluated existing products and generated new product ideas “that are pointing us in the direction of innovation and growth. From their in-depth expertise in the field, these professionals have been able to help us review developmental products for project direction and tailor services and programs that will benefit them and their industry.”
