The
International Interior Design Association (IIDA) in partnership with Hospitality Design magazine has announced Quick Drain USA as the winner of the “Accessories and Specialties” category in its 13th Annual IIDA/HD Product Design Competition at the Platinum Circle® Awards Gala on May 14 during the 2009 HD Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada.
At the black-tie gala hosted by the Venetian Hotel Ballroom, the Quick Drain USA linear slot drain system was recognized by a distinguished panel of industry experts based on innovation, technical advancement, cost-effectiveness, environmental responsibility, aesthetic, industry need and usage, and for both client and end-user benefits. The judging panel included IIDA members Belinda Bennett from the Bennett Design Group in Houston; Viveca Bissonnette, CID, LEED AP, from Carrier Johnson in San Diego; Rick Marencic from Daroff Design, Inc. in Philadelphia; and Steve McCollom, AIA, from San Francisco.
Quick Drain USA has garnered national acclaim in its short time in the American marketplace, taking home top product honors for the second time in as many tradeshows at the 2009 HD Expo. Just two weeks prior, Quick Drain’s linear channel drain, the quick, easy to install and far more aesthetically pleasing replacement for the traditional round-center drain, swept the Bath Competition at K/BIS® 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia. Quick Drain took home the “Gold Award” as the most innovative product at the show, as well the award for K/BIS “Best of Competition: Bath.”
“I jokingly tell people all the time that I’m not a salesman I’m just a presenter,” said Josef Erlebach, president of Quick Drain USA. “This product almost literally sells itself. If your involved in any way with the specification of a large commercial project, hotel or otherwise, this product offers so many benefits that I just have to be there to show them how it works. We had a big job earlier this year and the developer estimated that the Quick Drain product saved them $150,000 on that one project alone. That can add up very quickly over a short period of time. And it’s a huge upgrade from an appearance standpoint, too.”
The low-profile Quick Drain USA stainless steel linear slot drain offers several different advantages as it makes it way from the manufacturer to the shower floor. Depending on where one stands in the chain, some are more important than others. Architects and designers value its sleek aesthetic, the general contractor and or/developer praise its dramatic time and labor saving benefits based on how quickly and easily the system can be installed when compared to traditional round-center shower drains. And tile contractors avoid the timely process of pitching the shower pan mortar bed in four directions to the center, and can begin installing tile immediately without having to worry about cutting tiles to account for the round drain directly in the middle of the tile layout. Quick Drain USA is ideal for residential or commercial installations in seven standard sizes for both side and bottom drain outlets, but the commercial contractor benefits exponentially as they quickly move from one shower to the next on any large-scale project.
The Quick Drain USA channel drain system is ideal for showers, deck drains, pool drains, public shower trenches and trough drain applications, all with a visible width of just 1 ½” (38mm). All Quick Drain USA linear slot drains can be installed over concrete and plywood substrates.
