Greyne relocates, expands space and productivity
Article Number: 4547

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—Greyne Custom Wood Co. has begun operation in its new 12,600-square-foot plant here after relocating from Baltimore. Reid Meisner, president, said the move was based on a need for more space and the ability to accommodate new equipment for a more environmentally friendly manufacturing process.

“The new facility is working out great,” said Nicole Little, CEO. “We chose Charlotte because of its reputation for having a skilled and diverse work force and its pro-business environment, and made the move over the long holiday season, so we’ve had time to iron out the kinks and ensure productivity.”

The settling-in process included time needed to finish more than $1 million in renovations to the site—a major portion of which was spent on the purchase of a spray line and Supernova roll coat line designed to apply VOC-free finishes. Greyne will utilize the machines to apply eco-friendly oil finishes made by Woca.

“We were particularly impressed with Woca’s focus on developing environmentally friendly vegetable oil-based finishes that contain little to no VOCs,” Meisner explained. “The Superfici line will apply the products in an efficient, high-quality manner with decreased drying times, which will reduce turnaround time.”

The hardwood mill also outfitted its new plant with a specially designed dust collection system, which not only reduces the amount of dust created during the manufacturing process, but also ensures a higher-quality finish and safer work environment.

Currently the site employs 13 people— many of which transferred from Baltimore—but more are to be hired in the near future, Meisner noted.
