CHICAGO—Bold new looks and concepts in tile and stone from all corners of the world will be in the spotlight at
Coverings 2009, celebrating its 20th anniversary from April 21 to 24, at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center here. And, although the show is not immune to current economic conditions, Coverings still promises to be the ultimate tile and stone experience for professionals, attracting distributors, retailers, contractors, fabricators, architects, interior designers and other professionals from across the industry.
In fact, more than 40 new exhibitors will be appearing, and the international representation is as strong as ever. Manufacturers from more than 50 countries will have their latest and greatest on display.
“The fact that Coverings is attracting new exhibitors despite the current economic downtown demonstrates, in no uncertain terms, the vitality and resilience of the market,” said Glenn Feder, president of client events for National Trade Productions, which manages and produces Coverings. “It underscores, as well, that attending Coverings is simply a must business investment for tile and stone professionals who are driven to overcome the current issues and survive.
“The show is staying true to its mission: to offer the hottest trends, the newest resources, unparalleled networking opportunities and the most compelling educational programming in the industry.”
This year’s first-time exhibitors bring with them a variety of product that will further bolster Coverings’ reputation for showcasing the newest, most cutting-edge looks in tile and stone. They include Settecento, an Italian manufacturer, whose offerings range from large-scale tiles bearing richly textured flower and organic patterns to exquisite, jewel-toned mosaic tile; Voguebay, an American company whose singular glass mosaic tiles boast designs including bubble-like patterns and geometric forms in a choice of ethereal colors; and Sogutsen Seramik, a Turkish producer of wall and floor tile.
The bustle of the show floor best reflects the energy found at Coverings, Feder said. Countless vignettes capture the artistry embodied by these materials. Daily demonstrations for contractors and installers round out the offerings.
While action on the show floor abounds, there’s plenty of programming hat takes lace off the show floor. A schedule filled with educational programming provides professional development opportunities for every segment of attendees throughout each day of the show. All seminars are free of charge, and most yield CEU credits.
The evening brings more events designed to allow attendees to rub elbows and connect with colleagues. Already confirmed for Wed., April 22, at 5 p.m., the Spectrum/Prism Awards will honor the most innovative use of tile and stone with $21,000 in prize money to be presented to the winners.
