LOS ANGELES—Once Hollywood’s elite walked the red carpet to get into the Kodak Theater for the Academy Awards, those who presented the coveted Oscars made their way to the greenroom, presented by Architectural Digest, to relax before going on stage. This marked the seventh consecutive year the magazine has hosted the backstage lounge.
The tradition of designing the room was marked by the announcement of an interior designer who was chosen by the magazine’s editors. This year’s winner, Steven Shadley, whose client list includes Diane Keaton, Woody Allen and Robert Altman, decided to give the room what he called a “Seventies Modern” design that was inspired by the Hollywood film sets of the period.
To help complete the room’s luxurious feel while keeping with its 1970 décor, Shadley turned to
Karastan’s Mama Mia shag rug in Chystaline. Inspired by the hit Broadway play and subsequent movie of the same name, the rug proved to be “a key element,” noted Connie Berry, director of marketing for Karastan. “Our new Mama Mia shag provided the perfect Seventies Modern look. We simply bound the carpet to fit the space and let the beauty of the style speak for itself.”
The rug, along with all the elements of the greenroom, will be featured in Architectural Digest’s June issue, which is slated to hit newsstands mid-May.
