Universal Textile Technologies Launches New Ad Campaign

(March 31, 2009) Dalton, Georgia – Universal Textile Technologies (UTT), manufacturers of BioCel™ and EnviroCel™ carpet backing, has launched new marketing efforts to further enforce the benefits and distinct qualities each backing brings to carpet. UTT’s new campaign plays on the concept of support.

These backings support a carpet’s longevity, appearance, and durability. Highly resistant to wear and water damage, carpets backed with EnviroCel™ and BioCel™ have excellent tuft binds that reduce snagging and edge ravel and withstand repeated wet cleanings. They support environmentally-friendly initiatives. Bio-based polymers in UTT’s green backings are made from domestically-grown soybeans replacing much of the petroleum-based polyols found in regular polyurethane backing.

Celceram, a highly refined, recovered material, improves the dimensional stability and performance of carpets. Both EnviroCel™ and BioCel™ incorporate post-consumer recycled PET plastic from soft drink and water bottles; contain rapidly renewable and recycled materials; range from 55 to 85% green by weight; and contribute to LEED totals.

BioCel™ and EnviroCel™ support the life and appearance of carpets, therefore the longevity of designers’ and architects’ finished projects. They also support the clients’ bottom line by reducing replacement down time, service disruption, and maintenance.

“Since our products’ inception, we‘ve made great progress in educating designers and architects on the benefit of specifying our green backings as they select carpet for their projects,” Universal Textile Technologies President Tom Peeples said. “This campaign reinforces the message and our products’ multiple benefits.”

Simply stated, BioCel™ is a high-traffic carpet backing solution, best utilized on carpets in commercial environments, such as convention centers. EnviroCel™ is a good choice for mid-range traffic applications including hospitality, healthcare, retail and high-end residential settings.

A second step in UTT’s campaign, set to launch at NeoCon, takes on a high-tech flavor, implying that it’s fast and simple to spec green. “We continue to stay at the forefront of technology, particularly utilizing co-friendly manufacturing processes to produce greener and better products,” Peeples said. “We hope, with this positioning, that our A&D audience understands how easy it is to spec green backing for carpet, just as today’s high-tech gadgets lend immediate gratification.”

EnviroCel™ and BioCel™ carpet backings prolong a carpet’s life and appearance and reduce replacement, maintenance and downtime costs. EnviroCel™ high-performance polyurethane carpet backings are an ideal choice for carpeting used in hotel rooms and corridors, time share/condominiums, health care and senior living facilities, apartments, mid-range traffic environments and high-end residential.

Containing rapidly renewable and recycled materials, EnviroCel™ contributes to LEED totals and is 55 to 85% green by weight. BioCel™ polyurethane backing systems for mid- to high-traffic commercial carpet, contain recycled, recovered and renewable materials and are 60 to 70% green by weight. BioCel™ and EnviroCel™ backings are third-party certified for recycled and renewable materials and contribute to LEED totals.

BioCel™ is listed as an environmentally preferred product and can be submitted under GSA SIN31-601. UTT’s carpet backing systems are listed in the U.S. Federal Agencies’ BioPreferred program.
