As FloorExpo celebrated its 10th anniversary in December during its national conference in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, members and supplier partners were given ample opportunities to mingle. A major focus centered on enabling both parties to work closer in 2009 in light of uncertain economic times ahead.

“With less total business flowing through the channel, it is important to focus that business with our partners,” said Jay Smith, FloorExpo president.

Following the opening address, Home Solutions and MultiFamily Solutions members and FloorExpo supplier partners engaged in a three-hour networking affair called “SupplyConnect.” The general session was one of the highlights of the second day featuring a panel of industry executives, including Frank Ready, Armstrong; Jeff Meadows, Beaulieu; Harold Turk, Dal-Tile; Kim Holm, Mannington; and Tom Lape, Mohawk.

A portion of the conference featured awards and accolades presented to several members. Gheesling presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Glenn Wyatt, founder of Atlanta West Carpets, Lithia Springs, Ga., for embodying the entrepreneurial spirit and drive customary of all members.

All awards recipients were cited for leveraging their networking opportunities within the group to discover ways to improve their businesses, boost company morale and save money. The winners were Flooring Design Group, Doraville, Ga.; Miller Bros. Floors, Stafford, Tex.; and Networking, awards programs highlight national conference Riemer Floors, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Two members of the Home Solutions Design Community were honored: The Design Award for Production Home went to Builders Wholesale Carpet, Columbia, S.C., while the Custom Home Design Award was given to J.R. McDade Co., Scottsdale, Ariz.

FloorExpo also recognized Home Solutions Member of the Year: Riemer Floors; MultiFamily Solutions Member of the Year: Flooring Services, Hyattsville, Md.; and the Vision and Dedication Award: Lape.
