Atlanta—In an effort to bring backing into the
future, the Mohawk Group, in cooperation with Roberts Adhesives, is introducing
NuSprayLok. The product, noted Sam Bracken, Mohawk Group’s vice president of
marketing, is a breakthrough in adhesive technology. “It eliminates many of the
persistent installation problems of the past and offers a single source premium
adhesive that can be used to install urethane and pvc-backed carpet tiles, VCT
and sheet vinyl manufactured or sold by the Mohawk Group,” he said. NuSprayLok
represents another technology coup for the company, following on the heels of
its development of Ever-Set, a stain resistant fiber system ( FCNews, April 28/
May 5).
The NuSprayLok adhesive promises superior
performance and effectiveness where there are high levels of moisture vapor
emissions and alkalinity. It is warrantied for up to seven pounds of vapor
emission as calculated by the calcium chloride test method and an 11 pH level.
“Historically, most flooring adhesives cannot withstand these conditions,”
Bracken explained, “but NuSprayLok has been engineered to overcome these
problematic issues making it universally applicable no matter what the
geographic area or locale.” The laborious trowel application is a thing of the
past, he noted. NuSprayLok, as its name suggests, is sprayed on utilizing a
patented bubble technology. It is available in both a 22-oz. aerosol can good
for close-in areas and repairs, plus a 30-lb. cylinder, recommended for open
areas.
An installer carries it wearing a specially
designed backpack. The system is completely self-contained—no electricity or air
hoses to drag around. NuSprayLok significantly cuts down on installation time by
eliminating the set-up normally required of most adhesives, said Bracken. In
fact, according to Dewey Taylor, director of mill sales and specifications for
Roberts Adhesives, Mohawk’s partner in developing the new, state-of-the-art
adhesive, installation time can be reduced by as much as 30% to 40% or more,
depending on job-site conditions, temperature and humidity. NuSprayLok has been
formulated to adhere over subfloors composed of any number of materials, such as
plywood of underlayment quality, marble, terrazzo, sound-resilient floors free
of wax and embossing, metal, and on above- or below-grade concrete floors.
Without sacrificing performance and by
developing truly innovative technology, Roberts Adhesives was able to create an
environmentally-safe product that is free of noxious odors, noted Taylor. “It is
fast-drying, non-flammable and contains an anti-microbial agent that offers
added protection against molds and other bacteria.” “The brand will have
exclusive distribution rights for NuSprayLok as it is rolled out among dealers
nationwide,” said Bracken. “Training and certification are required for NuSpray-
Lok installers, but it is a system that is easily learned.” For more information
