Greenroom at the 81st Academy Awards
DALTON, GA, March 1, 2009—The 81st Annual Academy Awards, held on February 22nd at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, is the biggest movie event of the year. While the show goes on out front, the most popular place backstage is Architectural Digest’s Greenroom—a luxurious area where stars can relax while they wait to go onstage. Karastan carpet, which was selected to fashion the floor of this year’s Greenroom, provided a stylish and comfortable backdrop for presenters and performers alike, including Kate Winslet, Meryl Streep and Sean Penn.

2009 marks the 7th consecutive year that Architectural Digest presented the backstage lounge. The tradition is marked by the announcement of an AD100 interior designer, chosen by the magazine’s editors to create the signature room. Tapped for this year’s coveted project was Steven Shadley, whose client list includes movie legends Diane Keaton, Woody Allen and Robert Altman. Shadley decided to give the room a “Seventies Modern” design that was inspired by the Hollywood film sets of the period.

“One of the key elements needed for Shadley’s 1970 décor was a shag rug,” explains Connie Berry, director of marketing for Karastan. “Our new Mama Mia shag in color Crystaline provided the perfect “Seventies Modern” look. We simply bound the carpet to fit the space and let the beauty of the style speak for itself.”

Karastan’s Mama Mia, along with all the elements of the Architectural Digest Greenroom will be featured in the June issue of the magazine. The publication is slated to hit newsstands mid-May.
