NEW YORK—Despite the cold wintery weather, more than 500 architects, designers and members of the city’s real estate community came out to enjoy the open house party by Italian tile manufacturer Sicis at its Manhattan showroom.
Visitors were treated to new installations throughout the 30,000-square-foot, multi-level building, located in Soho’s art district. The entry level showcased 10 foot high “Flower Power,” panels made from hand-cut opaque, iridescent and transparent glass mosaics blended with metallic Colibri and 24k gold tiles. Suspended from the ceiling are giant mosaic sunflowers, and under foot is Cosmati, blending laser cut Murano glass with marble.
At the showroom’s rear, is a 40-foot panel of mosaic butterflies made from hand-cut mosaics, and set against a pixilated background of whole mosaics with varying tones from light to dark. James Velez, marketing and showroom manager, said the surface shows two techniques in one composition and illustrates Sicis’ artistry and technical abilities with mosaics.
