BALTIMORE—J.R. Harris of Flooring Max in Waldorf, Md., was honored by the Maryland & Northern Virginia Floor Covering Association (MDNVFCA) as its Person of the Year during the organization’s annual awards banquet and fundraiser. Harris became the first person in the association’s 44-year history to receive the distinction twice.

In addition to MDNVFCA, Harris was also surprised with a special honor by the International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association (CFI) for his “lifelong commitment and dedication to bettering the installation community.”

Roland Thompson, MDNVAFCA’s president, said the evening was not only well attended, “it meant a great deal to honor J.R. He’s done so much that trying to cover all he does for the industry and the installers that are dear to his heart would take me too long.”

Along with Harris, MDNVFCA members voted L. Fishman & Son as the organization’s Associate of the Year. MDNVAFCA once again used the Awards Banquet and its recent golf tournament to raise money for industry members through the Floor Covering Industry Foundation (FCIF) as well the local community through the Believe in Tomorrow Foundation.

While the economy took its toll on donations, especially from those who are typically major sponsors, the association was still able to raise a total of $5,000 for the two organizations.
