Article Number: 4083

BOCA RATON, FLA.—Martin Greenwood’s career in the carpet industry was entirely as an entrepreneur. For more than 40 years he was in his own business in the Dalton area and eventually divested and relocated to Florida. During his retirement here, he became ill with pancreatic cancer and after a valiant battle, succumbed to the disease Oct. 30. He was 76.

Greenwood was born in New York on Oct. 13, 1932, was married in 1953 and, after serving in the Air Force during the Korean conflict, he and his young wife moved to Georgia. In 1956 he launched the first of three companies, among which were Wadsworth-Greenwood Corp., Multitex Corp. and Globaltex Carpet Mills. He served as president and CEO of Wadsworth and as chairman and CEO of Multitex and Globaltex.

In 1999, he sold Multitex and its spin-off Globaltex to the Dixie Group, and in 2003 it was sold to Shaw.

Survivors include his wife Audrey, of 55 years; sons Larry and Charles; daughter Marion Smith; grandchildren Kelsey Greenwood and Marissa and Corey Smith; sister, Ann Hafler of Florida, and brother, Henry Greenwood of New York.
