Hakatai Glass Tile Adds Zen to Denver Bungalow
Article Number: 3933

Hakatai glass mosaic tile was specified by Mather Architectural Design as part of a complete master bath renovation of a 1910 home in the historic Park Hill section of Denver, Colorado. Prior to the remodel, the new owners spent a full year in the bungalow-style home without ever making use of the outdated attic-space bathroom. Mather Architectural Design used Hakatai’s Classic series tile to surface the new tub surround and shower bench with calm, refreshing colors that pull the entire design theme together, creating a pleasant and usable space.

Mather Architectural Design specified 120 square feet of Classic series Smoky Grey Blend to complement the addition of several other modern amenities, all targeted to provide a soothing, Zen aesthetic in honor of the homeowner’s Japanese heritage. Hakatai’s mesh-backed ¾” x ¾” glass mosaics curved easily around the tub vanity and carried over nicely to the shower bench. Each of the four colors in the blend work in concert with the limestone countertop, beige porcelain tile floor and cherry cabinetry added during the remodel.

“We used Hakatai glass mosaics to pull the colors out of the flooring tile, the French blue limestone counter, and to contrast with the cherry cabinetry,” said Wendy Mather, principal of Mather Architectural Design. “The glass tiles on the tub vanity and the shower bench are the defining geometric shapes that help to accentuate the sculptural forms in the room.”
