 WOOLSHIRE: A PERFECT FIT
For the second year in a row, Woolshire Carpet Mills is a “Special Thanks Sponsor” of Cooking Light magazine’s FitHouse—a showhome specially designed to

foster healthy living. This year’s home is nestled in Big Canoe, Georgia, and is open to the public from June 7-Sept. 28. Those not able to visit can page through the August issue of Cooking Light magazine or take a virtual tour at www.cookinglight.com.
Designers worked with Wools of New Zealand Elite Showroom, Images Floor Covering in Atlanta, to choose the styles and install the carpet. The Wools of New Zealand Brand products selected were Woolshire’s Endless Shadows in almond for the girl’s bedroom, Woolshire’s North Island in color hollycomb for the boy’s bedroom, and Woolshire’s Crochet in color sail for the home office. Each wool carpet complements the environmental qualities and healthy living goals promoted throughout the home.

  NEW PARTNERS
Wools of New Zealand welcomes the addition of four new partners: Carter Carpets International, Merida Meridian, JSL Carpet Corporation, and Antrim Carpets USA.

  MOVING ON UP
Those visiting Elite Partner, Lewis Carpet One of Northbrook, Illinois, are in for a pleasant surprise. Formerly a modest

floorcovering store, Lewis Carpet One is now an expansive, upscale showroom catering to the total flooring needs of its high-end clientele. (See the three-page article on Lewis Carpet One in the summer issue of Rug Insider.)
“In the past 15 years we have remodeled six times, moving more and more upscale,” explains Steven Lewis, President of Lewis Carpet One. “This was by far our largest project, involving 16,000 square feet of additional showroom space. Our wool room was an important part of this project. Not only did we design a ‘wool only’ section encompassing over 1,500 square feet with offerings from almost every Wools of New Zealand Brand partner but we expanded our offering of area rugs to include one-of-a-kind wool handmades in response to our customers requests.”
According to Susie Axelred, vice president of merchandising and marketing for Lewis Carpet One, “Our clientele loves wool and is showing a big interested in patterns. They want coordinated looks that transition well from room to hall to stairs. Wools of New Zealand Brand partner, Louis de Poortere, offers a popular solution with Les Combinés—a mix-and-match line of rugs, runners, and broadloom with lots of flexibility and variety.”

  FIGHTING BACK
Wools of New Zealand has been a long-time advocate of carpet’s indoor health benefits. Fighting alongside us is the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) which has launched an aggressive “Carpet Comes Clean” campaign to get real and measurable data into the hands of asthma and allergy physicians. Included in its efforts is a three-minute audio presentation that highlights new studies that counter much of the misinformation that has been in the media over the past few years.

  WOOL WISDOM
What Is Worsted Wool?
Worsted wool is not a type of wool. It’s a spinning system that produces a yarn with particular characteristics.
During the carding and spinning process, the wool fibers are combed to be more parallel than in any other yarn spinning system. The parallel fiber configuration results in a more lustrous, compact yarn.
In floor coverings, worsted yarns are generally used for fine-gauge tufting, for woven Wiltons and in high-end rugs where the style demands a lustrous yarn.
