PERRY HALL, MD.—Industry associates remember him as very charismatic, warm and friendly, always helpful and the consummate professional. David Morrison spent his career in the carpet industry as a sales executive and later entrepreneur until two years ago when he was diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent surgery. After a courageous struggle, on Sept. 19 he succumbed to the disease at his home in the Towson, Md., area. He was 70.

Morrison was born and raised in Baltimore, after which he joined the Army. After four years of military service, he launched his carpet career in the late 1960s when he joined the Roxbury Division of Trend Mills as a sales rep. He later was named regional manager in the territory for Berven Carpets Corp., the California-based mill. In the late ’70s, he served as regional manager for Coronet Industries and in 1985, started his own business, a sales agency. The company thrived, and when illness took its toll, he had to conclude his 40-year stint in the carpet industry.

Morrison was admired and respected by people for whom he worked as well as by those who worked for him. “He was a caring, gentle man, always ready to help others, always a friend,” said Sandy Mishkin, president of CCA Global Partners and a longtime friend. “He was passionate about people and, in turn, people loved him for his concern and support. He made a difference to so many, and he will be missed.”

Survivors include his wife, Shirley; daughters Lesli Morrison, Lisa Wolf and Jennifer Hall, and six grandchildren.
