DALTON—
Zeftron nylon has been recognized by McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC), with the prestigious Cradle to Cradle Silver certification.
MBDC is a third-party consultancy company founded by world-renowned architect William McDonough and chemist Dr. Michael Braungart.
Zeftron nylon 6, manufactured by
Shaw Industries for commercial carpet, was given the distinction for being a proven environmentally responsible fiber that is 100% closed-loop recyclable at the end of its useful life. Currently, all Zeftron fiber comes standard with a minimum 25% recycled content.
Jay Bolus, MBDC’s vice president of technical operations, said the Silver Certification, means Zeftron demonstrates sustainability and continuous improvement. “It lends further credibility to Zeftron’s environmentally intelligent design.”
MBDC’s Cradle to Cradle certification process closely examines the use of environmentally safe and healthy materials, design for recycling, water and energy efficiency and social responsibility strategies.
“We have always worked to make a product that leaves little or no environmental footprint,” said Tim Blount, business leader for Zeftron. “Every decision regarding manufacturing, product attributes and complete life cycle responsibility work toward this goal, from manufacturing only nylon 6 products to our simple-to-use commercial carpet recycling program, 6ix Again.”
Zeftron nylon is committed to environmental stewardship and excels in the area of design for material reutilization, noted Blount.
Carpet products carrying the Cradle to Cradle certification are included within U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED rating system and can also contribute to earning LEED points for Innovation in Design.
