DALTON, GA (June 2, 2008)—Home improvement television star Chip Wade has joined
Mohawk Industries to serve as a celebrity spokesperson for new and innovative flooring products. Wade will use his expertise as a professional carpenter and home remodeling contractor to help explain flooring innovations and their value as consumers make purchasing decisions for their homes.
Wade, an Atlanta native, comes from a line of experienced carpenters and woodcraftsmen. His interests in home renovation and carpentry began from an early age working closely with his father. This interest developed into a passion as he became proficient in both the design and execution of large-scale remodeling projects.
“I’ve known and worked with Mohawk flooring for years,” Wade said. “I’ve been especially impressed with Mohawk’s green efforts, like SmartStrand® carpet. It was important to me that I worked with a company that’s truly dedicated to being environmentally responsible.”
Wade joined the Atlanta edition of the HGTV television show “Designed to Sell” in 2007. On the show, Wade works with a team to perform a three-room makeover in just a few days. He quickly became a popular addition the show. His unique position on the show allows him to work on multiple projects, leading the team in the hard work required to complete a designer’s vision in a limited period of time.
“Chip combines real-world experience with extraordinary communications and craftsmanship,” said David Duncan, Vice President of Marketing for Mohawk. “Chip will help Mohawk demonstrate the true value of our products so consumers see all the advantages for quality, beauty and environmental responsibility that Mohawk offers. We think this will help consumers visit our retailer showrooms better prepared to make buying decisions.”
Wade’s initial projects with Mohawk include some of the most innovative offerings today:
An interactive presentation on SmartStrand® carpet made with renewably sourced DuPont™ Sorona® polymer, now online at http://mohawkflooring.com/chip-wade/chip-wade-on-smartstrand-carpet.aspx.
An interactive presentation on Mohawk’s hardwood installation technology, Uniclic®. This will soon be available for viewing at http://mohawkflooring.com/chip-wade/chip-wade-on-uniclic-hardwood.aspx.
Wade will be appearing in many other presentations on Mohawk websites and at upcoming events.
Wade graduated from Georgia Tech with a degree in mechanical engineering and became certified in residential construction while working as a structural engineer at a home building firm. He lives in Atlanta with his wife, Pauli. The Wades are expecting their first child this fall.
