May 19, 2008: LATICRETE, a global leader in the manufacturing of innovative systems for the installation of ceramic tile and stone, supplied Navillus Contracting of Long Island City, New York, with technical support and a GREENGUARD certified system of LEED compliant setting materials to install 8.1 million pieces of 1” x 1” ceramic tiles as the exterior façade for the expansion of the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, now the first “green” museum in New York City.

Navillus Contracting, led by Matt McCormick, accepted a special “Green Award” in the annual Spectrum Awards ceremony at Coverings 2008 in Orlando, Florida, for the LEED Certified Brooklyn Children’s Museum designed by Rafael Vinoly Architects in New York. To set and grout the 57,000 square feet of mosaic tile supplied by DSA America, Navillus Contracting utilized GREENGUARD certified products from LATICRETE including: LATICRETE® 226 Thick Bed Mortar, LATICRETE 3701 Mortar Admix, LATICRETE 9235 Waterproofing Membrane, LATICRETE 254 Platinum, and LATICRETE SpectraLOCK®* PRO Grout in a custom yellow to match the tiles. All expansion joints we’re sealed for extra protection with LATICRETE Latasil™, also in custom yellow.

At Coverings 2008, twenty-one winning projects were honored with an annual Spectrum or Prism Award for imaginative and visionary use of tile and stone. The Spectrum Awards focused on installations of ceramic tile, while the Prism Awards recognize exceptional use of natural stone.
