HARTFORD, CONN.—Open up any magazine or newspaper, turn on the TV and you’ll be bombarded with eco-friendly stories and ads from companies proclaiming how green they are. But what does being green mean for your business and your customers?
On May 19, the Connecticut Floor Covering Association (CFCA) hopes to answers these questions during its “The Green Impact” educational day and State of the Industry dinner featuring
Randy Merritt, president of
Shaw Industries, as the keynote speaker.
The event begins at 4 p.m. with a variety of breakout education sessions featuring discussions on recycling carpet; the environmental benefits of different flooring products such as cork, linoleum and others, as well as information on
Armstrong World Industries’ new Bio-Based Migrations tile (
FCNews, Nov. 26/Dec. 3, 2007).
Karen Cook of Cook & Kozlak Flooring Center and chairman of the event, said at press time that other sessions were being finalized, noting many of the event’s co-sponsors are hosting the seminars. She added that in addition to literature passed out during the breakouts, attendees will receive a green grocery bag filled with information to take home. The highlight will be the Resource Guide, which will include relevant articles, a Web resource guide and more.
At only $75 for access to all the events, Cook said space is filling up fast with over 200 people already committed to attend. While the event is being put on by CFCA, Cook made a point of noting the association is encouraging retailers, distributors, salespeople and supplier reps from other states to participate.
In addition to making the day a beneficial one for attendees, she said CFCA is also using the event to give back to the community and environment. “It was our intention all along that besides offering an informative evening for our membership, we wanted to raise some funds for a local youth program that involved the kids in an environmentally conscious way.”
To that end, the association is donating funds to the nonprofit Riverfront Recapture and its program for inner city youth, as well as CFCA’s college scholarship program.
