Putt for a Purpose at the 2008 David Allen Company MS Golf Tournament
Article Number: 3154

GAINESVILLE, VA – Calling all golfers to putt for a purpose at this year’s David Allen Company MS Golf Tournament. The 14th annual charity event will be held on Friday, May 23 at Heritage Hunt Golf and Country Club in Gainesville, VA – located 40 minutes outside of the Nation’s capital. Registration, which begins at 10 a.m., is $300 per person and sponsorship opportunities are available.

The event – which benefits the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Capital Chapter – will draw together trade professionals, suppliers, and contractors alike from across the country for a day of fun, fundraising, and MS awareness. Participants will enjoy a complete program of special events, 18 holes of golf, lunch, raffle prizes and an exciting awards banquet. Special guest former Washington Redskins defensive end Charles Mann is scheduled to join for the event.

Phil Halcomb, Vice President of David Allen Company in Manassas, VA – which focuses on concept design and installation for ceramic tile, marble, stone, terrazzo and epoxy flooring – established the golf tournament as a way to connect with others and make an impact in the community. The tournament raised $800 in its first year. Last year, the tournament raised a record $61,000 for the National MS Society.

“The donation will make a tremendous difference to many within the local Chapter,” said Halcomb. “Every little bit helps, and we look forward to exceeding our goal this year.”

In addition to participants, the tournament is currently seeking corporate sponsorship to underwrite the costs of the tournament so that more funds go directly to families in need. Companies are invited to join the movement against MS by teaming with other industry leaders signed on to date including LATICRETE International, Inc., Terrazzo and Marble Supply Companies, David Allen Company, Mer-Krete Systems, R.W. Murray Co., Hess Construction + Engineering Services, and Daltile. Sponsorship levels range from $325 to $10,000 and above.

Halcomb, his wife Kathy, and members of the David Allen Company staff recruit participants as well as sponsors who underwrite the tournament’s costs and raffle prizes. Raffle prizes include items ranging from limited edition watches from the Masters at Augusta, to 2007 Presidents Cup American & International golf bags, to sports memorabilia, and getaway packages.

“We are proud to have a partner like David Allen Company in our work to end multiple sclerosis,” said J. Christopher Broullire, president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, National Capital Chapter. “The annual David Allen Company MS Golf Tournament gets bigger and better every year, and the staff there works very hard to make a difference in the lives of many thousands of people living with MS.”

Funds raised through the tournament will benefit local programs and services for people living with MS and their families. MS stops people from moving. The National MS Society exists to make sure it doesn’t. Locally, the National Capital Chapter provides a wide range of vital services in the areas of counseling, education, employment, information and referral, public policy development and advocacy, and financial assistance.
